Welcome

Ozark Conference Center is a full-service, interdenominational adult conference center that places special emphasis on camping for children and youth. Ozark is located on 325 acres atop Jenkins Mountain in Solgohachia, Arkansas. Solgohachia has a Native American heritage since it was one of the stopping places on the "Trail of Tears" and there are several legends about the origin of the name. Some say the name comes from a Native American name meaning "a hole in the mountain" while others think the town was named for a favorite warrior of the Cherokee tribe named Sol, who was unusually good with his hatchet.Whatever the name or history, after many years as a nomadic ministry, God led the founders and leaders of Ozark Conference Center to a home on one of the most beautiful mountaintops in Arkansas. OCC's FAMILY CAMP 2010!

September 3-6, Friday
(check-in begins at 4 PM)

A Letter to Family Camp Attendees

Dear Family Campers!

We’re only about a month away from Ozark Conference Center’s 2010 Labor Day Family Camp! I hope you’re as excited as we are! We have lots of fun plans for the weekend and look forward to a great time together. This note is to give you an idea of how to prepare and what to pack for the weekend.

  • Check-in is on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dinner begins at 5:30.

  • Welcome and orientation begins at 6:30 and it is critical that you be there for this. We’ll go over several things about the weekend, including our schedule, and about our life together at Ozark for a few days that you must know. Please make every effort to be on time for orientation. Plan on at least one parent, and preferably the whole family, being in attendance so everyone has the same opportunity to get with the program. Family cooperation and interaction with other families is a major benefit of attending camp together—don’t miss out on one of the major opportunities to set an example and model cooperation.

  • We will dismiss after a closing ceremony Monday morning at 11:00.

  • Theme Night: We have one theme night this year: Saturday night is Solgohachia “Survivor” Night! We’ll provide the face paint and you can put together your best safari/survivor outfit (if you so desire!). Think camouflague/safari/stranded and get creative!

  • Linens, towels and basic toiletries are provided in all of our lodging facilities. You will want to bring swimming towels for the pool.

  • And speaking of pool, bring all you need for a great time in the water: swimsuits (no bikinis, please); sunscreen; pool toys; etc. We also have a stocked fishing pond. We have fishing supplies, but you are welcome to bring your own.

  • Remember, this is camp (for kids and parents)! We do a lot of outdoor activity so bring cool clothing and footwear that can withstand rocks, pine needles, sticks and dirt! It’s also a good idea to bring a sports bottle for everyone, a hat, and you might even want to bring a backpack to throw a few items in.

Kids have their own activities and will need sunscreen, good shoes, bug spray, basically anything necessary for outdoor fun in the sun. Thanks, parents, for helping us in this area!

  • Snack shop and Book table: Our snack shop is open intermitantly throughout the weekend and we have a growing inventory of wonderful books. These items are not included in the retreat price. Each night we provide a fun snack for everyone that is included in the total price.

  • Food or diet restrictions: please let us know as soon as possible about these.

  • Prepare your heart to receive all that God has in His heart for you and your family this weekend. If you haven’t already started, begin now praying and asking God to “enlighten the eyes of your heart” (Eph. 1:18) during our time together. Let’s pray that we go home transformed more into the image of Christ!

This weekend has been uniquely crafted so that families are ministered to in the most important job God has given us to do! As you prepare to have lots of fun, don’t neglect to allow this special time to make a profound and eternal difference for you and your family!

If you have any questions, contact Bobbie Courtney at bobbie@ozarkconference.org or call M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 501-354-3959.

We can’t wait to see you!
